Jose Abreu Undergoes MRI On Friday
9 months agoHouston Astros first baseman Jose Abreu (back), who has missed two straight games with lower-back discomfort, underwent an MRI and was examined by team doctors on Friday. Astros skipper Dusty Baker hopes at this time that Abreu won't require a stint on the injured list. Abreu has sputtered at the plate virtually all year after bagging a three-year, $58.5 million with the Astros this past offseason. The former AL MVP is slashing a weak .234/.291/.343 with 10 home runs, 16 doubles, and 56 RBI through 423 at-bats this year. Abreu's next chance to return to the lineup will come on Saturday versus the Los Angeles Angels.
