Jose Abreu Scuffling, Still Batting Cleanup Sunday
12 months agoHouston Astros first baseman Jose Abreu struck out twice (0-for-2) with two walks Saturday against the Mariners. The 36-year-old remains in the advantageous fourth spot in the Astros batting order Sunday for their series finale. Time has to be running thin before Houston considers dropping him in the lineup; Abreu still doesn't have a single home run with the club and his slugging percentage (.254) is shockingly lower than his on-base percentage (.273). The former AL MVP is hitting a lousy 19-for-101 (.188 average) over the last month of play now. Abreu remains a hold in mixed fantasy leagues for his stacked career resume, but you'd be hard-pressed to make a buy-low case for this version of him right now amidst this power outage.
