Jack Flaherty Roughed Up For Six Runs, Wins Anyway
10 months agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Jack Flaherty threw 6 1/3 innings in Monday's 8-6 victory over the Washington Nationals. The 27-year-old struck out five during his fourth win, but he was lifted by the offense in this one. It was Flaherty's second straight outing allowing 10 hits and six runs, not exactly something he'll want to keep a habit of. Most of the right-hander's work to rebuild his ERA after a 10-run bruising versus the Los Angeles Angels on May 4 has been erased with these setbacks. A 2023 post-hype sleeper candidate, the oft-injured Flaherty hasn't been up to snuff in consummating that status. It's fair to wonder at this point if the Cardinals explore trade opportunities with their former ace on an expiring deal. Flaherty carries an unreliable 4.95 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and 80:44 K:BB into a shy-away matchup with the Houston Astros next Tuesday.
