Aaron Civale Cruises To Win Friday
2 months agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Aaron Civale turned in a successful 2024 debut in Friday's 8-2 victory over the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays, hurling six one-run innings on four hits and one walk with six strikeouts. George Springer blasted a home run during the third frame, but Civale mostly cruised to the win in his opening showing of the year. Acquired by the Rays in a trade deadline deal last season, the 28-year-old right-hander struggled to the tune of a 5.36 ERA and 1.36 WHIP across 45 1/3 innings in Tampa during 2023 but got off on the right foot on Friday. With a whopping five members of the pitching staff unavailable for the Rays across various intervals of the campaign, Civale is going to be a big part of their rotation this year. He's slated to face the defending-champion Texas Rangers on Wednesday, where Civale will be a dicey fantasy option.
