Royce Lewis Not Ready To Play Defense
7 months agoMinnesota Twins infielder Royce Lewis (hamstring) is expected to remain at designated hitter for the forthcoming ALDS against the Houston Astros. Lewis returned from a left hamstring strain in time to help the Twins sweep the Toronto Blue Jays during the AL Wild Card series, notably popping two home runs in Game 1. But Minnesota will opt to play things safely with the former No. 1 overall pick, whose bat they will surely want to preserve after he slashed .309/.372/.548 with 15 home runs, 52 RBI, and six stolen bases in 239 regular-season plate appearances. Jorge Polanco will likely continue to fill in at third base until Lewis, whose hamstring hasn't significantly improved yet, gets a green light to return defensively.
