Corbin Burnes Logs Quality Start Before Ejection
11 months agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes went six innings on Friday, giving up three runs and striking out seven batters in the team's 5-4 win in extras over the Cincinnati Reds. The 28-year-old allowed just two hits, but struggled with four walks and took a no-decision. Burnes was ejected for arguing the strike zone after his final frame of work. The former ERA title holder and Cy Young award winner has a ho-hum 3.75 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 66 punchouts in 69 2/3 innings this year. Fantasy managers expected a bit greater out of the consensus No. 1 overall starting pitcher option in spring drafts. There's no need for panic, but Burnes is mostly treading water and shows a career-low 2.36 strikeouts per walk. The two-time All-Star is in search of a vintage performance and Burnes may have a decent chance at that versus the Cedric Mullins-less Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday.
