BALLER MOVE: Stash in Deeper Leagues
CALL-UP ETA: May
ANALYSIS: It’s been a long road back for Shane Baz, who's in the final stages of his recovery from Tommy John surgery in 2022. Although Baz is no longer considered a prospect by definition, he has such little major league experience with just 40 1/3 innings (nine starts) and a 4.02 ERA alongside a 1.11 WHIP at the highest level.
The 24-year-old former No. 12 overall pick was Baseball America’s No. 8 prospect for 2022, and Baz should get back to dominating the competition during his minor league rehab assignment that starts the weekend of May 4. The right-hander owns a 1.83 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 84:15 K:BB over 59 career frames (14 starts) at Triple-A Durham.

Baz didn’t participate in spring training, so he’ll likely need somewhere in the neighborhood of four or five appearances in the minors before rejoining the Tampa Bay Rays' injury-ravaged rotation. With a 28.9% strikeout rate for his big league career, Baz has the potential to grow into an upper-echelon starter when he’s fully stretched out and is a worthy stash in all fantasy formats.
