Game of the Day

San Antonio Spurs at Washington Wizards

Not very often will the Spurs be in a game with tons of fantasy value, but the Wizards bring so much pace, offense and so little defense that this is the case tonight. Washington enters this game seventh in pace, 29th in defense and second in offense while the Spurs are just 27th in defense and while being sixth in offense.

DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge are the headliners for the Spurs as their 26.1% and 22.6% usage rates are the highest on the team. Both are scoring 35 Draftkings points per game and get more reliant on scoring than most fantasy players. That should be an easy task tonight against a Wizards team that is dead last in the NBA, allowing 120.1 points per game.

The next two players you can take a GPP shot on are Bryn Forbes and Dejounte Murray.  Forbes joins only DeRozan and Aldridge as Spurs taking over 10 field goal attempts per game. Murray meanwhile is severely limited but a minutes cap, but his 2.0 steals per 36 minutes give him a nice upside.

Rudy Gay and Trey Lyles are cheap options who could bust out against the Wizards who are bottom five in field goal defense and turnovers.

The Wizards continue to be a bad actual team that always shows fantasy upside. Without John Wall it is no surprise that Bradley Beal has a massive 33.2% usage rate and has turned that into nearly 50 fantasy points per game. Beal is the obvious play, but Thomas Bryant may be a player that breaks the slate against a surprisingly bad Spurs interior. San Antonio is 28th in two-point defense and 17th in rebounding, two areas Bryant excels.

The secondary Wizards all have some upside for cheap prices as Isaiah Thomas, Rui Hachimura, and Davis Bertans all play over 24 minutes a game. If you believe in revenge narratives, Bertans left the Spurs this offseason and also has shown surprising upside with four games over 25 fantasy points this year.

Fade of the Day

Paul George

George has been spectacular in his first three games with the Clippers, and yet has not seen a huge price jump.  That would lead many to play him today, but the concern here is that his minutes seem to be capped at 30 and he could see the return of Kawhi Leonard tonight.

Leonard has a monster 36.5% usage rate, which would certainly eat into George’s production, but furthermore could make George less likely to see 30 minutes. Along with Leonard’s potential return, the Clippers will be in a pace down spot against the Celtics who are 18th in pace and also eighth in team defense.

The Celtics also happen to allow the second fewest steals per game and have a top 10 three-point defense.  Until we see George go at full tilt or in a better matchup it is better to fade him.
