2 days agoColorado Rockies relief pitcher Jalen Beeks was called upon to hold a two-run lead versus the Texas Rangers on Sunday. He was able to earn his second save in four days with a scoreless inning during Sunday's victory. It's uncertain what the Rockies are doing with the closer situation right now. It seems that Beeks is going to be in the mix alongside Justin Lawrence. Beeks holds a 2.33 ERA in 19 1/3 innings but has a 14/8 K/BB ratio to go along with it. Beeks isn't a great option, but could be worth a look for fantasy managers despite for saves.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoCincinnati Reds outfielder TJ Friedl (thumb) was pulled out of Sunday's game against the San Francisco Giants. The speedy outfielder was taken out after being hit in the hand by a pitch. Luckily, the X-rays came back clean and Friedl is only dealing with a left thumb contusion. The Reds might decide to hold him out for a few days depending on the pain and swelling. If he misses time, Jake Fraley and Stuart Fairchild would probably see more action in the outfield.Source: Bally Sports
2 days agoSan Francisco Giants outfielder Michael Conforto (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with a right hamstring strain. Conforto was removed from Saturday's game in the fourth inning with the ailment. The 31-year-old was leading the Giants with seven home runs and 40 hits at the time of his injury. Luis Matos was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento as a corresponding move and figures to fit into the outfield mix while Conforto is shelved. Matos is more of a wait-and-see fantasy asset at this point since he has struggled in the minors so far this season.Source: SF Giants
2 days agoSan Francisco Giants outfielder Luis Matos has officially been recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday. Michael Conforto (hamstring) has been placed on the 10-day injured list as a corresponding move. It is unclear whether Matos will receive everyday at-bats or not, but he will definitely be in the outfield mix for the Giants. The 22-year-old has scuffled at the plate to start his minor-league season as he is slashing .218/.308/.355 with three homers, 17 RBI and three stolen bases across 31 games. He is worth a speculative add in the deepest of leagues, but most managers should probably take a wait-and-see approach with Matos instead.Source: San Francisco Giants
2 days agoHouston Astros starter Justin Verlander was in fine form on Sunday afternoon against the Detroit Tigers. The veteran right-hander tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out eight batters. It was a nice bounce-back performance for Verlander after he surrendered seven runs to the New York Yankees in his previous outing. The 41-year-old now owns a 2-1 record this season to go along with a 3.38 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 23:12 K:BB through five starts. Verlander does not possess the same strikeout stuff he once had, but he is still a quality fantasy asset capable of churning out quality starts. He lines up against a surprisingly stout Milwaukee Brewers offense in his next projected start.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow was initially projected to make his next start on Wednesday against the San Francisco Giants, but the team is going to push it back at least a day. Glasnow has had five days off between every start he has made in 2024 and the Dodgers do not want to change things. Wednesday's contest will likely be a bullpen game or another roster move will be made. Glasnow is probable to pitch on Thursday against the Cincinnati Reds, but that has not been confirmed yet. The 30-year-old is a must-start option whenever he takes the mound next as he has been phenomenal during his first season in California.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoToronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah had his best start in a long time on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins. Manoah allowed three runs (none earned) across seven innings of work and only threw 78 pitches. He struck out six batters while issuing one walk. Manoah was cruising through the start, but an error by Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement in the seventh inning turned into a three-run home run from Carlos Santana three batters later. It was nice to see Manoah hold his own against a strong lineup after he gave up seven runs in his first start of the season. He is by no means a must-roster player, but there is some more streaming intrigue surrounding him for his next projected start against the Tampa Bay Rays. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on Manoah and consider picking him up if he strings together some momentum on the mound.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoVancouver Canucks center Nils Aman is set to make his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut in Game 3 against the Oilers on Sunday. He's in line to replace Phillip Di Giuseppe in the lineup, who was away from the team on Sunday for personal reasons. Aman, a former sixth-round draft pick, skated in 43 games during the regular season, scoring three goals and delivering four assists. The Swedish forward is projected to skate on the fourth line with Teddy Blueger and Sam Lafferty.Source: Jeff Paterson
2 days agoMinnesota Twins starter Bailey Ober had one of his best starts of the season on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays. The towering right-hander picked up the win after tossing 6 1/3 scoreless innings and allowed a single hit. He struck out a season-high 10 batters without issuing a walk. Ober had a horrific first start way back in March when he gave up eight earned runs in 1 1/3 innings, but he has been dialled in ever since. He now owns a 4-1 record to go along with a 3.71 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 45:8 K:BB across eight appearances. Ober is an automatic start regardless of opponent at this point.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoNew York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (ribs) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's showdown against the Atlanta Braves. Nimmo left Saturday's game early after experiencing intercostal irritation after a check swing. It is unclear whether Nimmo will be able to return to the lineup on Monday. DJ Stewart would be the biggest beneficiary if Nimmo continues to miss time. Stewart is starting in left field and batting leadoff on Sunday, but his .185/.372/.415 slash line leaves a lot to be desired.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoVancouver Canucks left wing Nils Hoglander is expected to be a healthy scratch for Game 3 against Edmonton on Sunday. After enjoying a solid regular-season campaign, he's struggled to perform in the playoffs. The Swedish winger ranked fourth on the team with 24 goals and managed 36 points across 80 appearances. During the postseason, Hoglander has been limited to one assist in eight games. Linus Karlsson is expected to make his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut on the second line on Sunday.Source: Jeff Paterson
2 days agoEdmonton Oilers forward Adam Henrique (lower body) will come out of the lineup on Sunday in Game 3 versus Vancouver. The veteran will miss his second game in the series after also being unavailable for Game 1. He was limited to 11:38 of ice time when Henrique returned to the lineup in Game 2. Connor Brown will take Henrique's spot on Sunday, making only his second postseason appearance of the year. The 30-year-old saw 7:35 of ice time in Game 1 against the Canucks, finishing with one hit and two penalty minutes.Source: ESPN
2 days agoRobelis Despaigne suffered a lopsided decision loss to Waldo Cortes-Acosta at UFC St. Louis which is his first career defeat. Despaigne entered the bout as the betting favorite, but the knockout artist struggled to defend takedowns as he was taken down once in each round, and couldn't get back up to his feet once he was taken down. He was controlled for over nine minutes. With the loss, Despaigne is now 5-1 as a pro and 1-1 in the UFC. Source: UFC
2 days agoWaldo Cortes-Acosta pulled off an upset decision win over Robelis Despaigne at UFC St. Louis on Saturday. Cortes-Acosta entered the bout as the underdog, but the Cuban went to his wrestling early and often to get a lopsided win. He finished the fight with three takedowns and 9:49 of control time. He got Despaigne down once in each round, and once he got him down, his opponent couldn't get up. With the upset win, Cortes-Acosta is now 12-1 as a pro and 5-1 in the UFC and is now on a three-fight winning streak.Source: UFC
2 days agoFlorida Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has been confirmed as the team's starter for Sunday's Game 4 against Boston. Bobrovsky lost all four regular-season battles with the Bruins and also started the second-round series with a heavy 5-1 loss. But after giving up four goals on 28 shots in Game 1, the Russian netminder has allowed only three goals across two games. Florida has picked up a couple of impressive wins this week, but with Bobrovsky's save percentage at a lowly .883 in the series, there could still be twists and turns to come in this matchup.Source: Colby Guy
2 days agoMateusz Rebecki suffered a third-round TKO loss to Diego Ferreira at UFC St. Louis. Rebecki entered the biggest favorite on the card, and in the first round, he dropped the Brazilian. However, after going for the finish, he appeared to gas himself out, as after that, Ferreira had his way with Rebecki. The Pole was outstruck 49-to-19 in the second round and 74-to-6 in the third round as the ref stopped the fight with nine seconds left. With the loss, Rebecki is now 3-1.Source: UFC
2 days agoDiego Ferreira was the biggest underdog on the card at UFC St. Louis and the 39-year-old Brazilian turned back the clock with a third-round stoppage win over Mateusz Rebecki. Ferreira got dropped early, but as Rebecki started to tire out, the Brazilian took over and began landing heavy shots. He ended up hurting Rebecki and with less than 10 seconds left, he got the ground-and-pound TKO finish. With the win, Ferreira is now on a two-fight winning streak and is 10-5 in the UFC.Source: UFC
2 days agoRodrigo Nascimento suffered a third-round knockout loss to Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC St. Louis. Nascimento entered the bout as the underdog and early on, the Brazilian had success. He went 1-for-1 on takedowns in the first round and had over two minutes of control. He followed that up with 2:09 of control time in the second round. However, Nascimento started to fade and less than a minute into the third round, he got caught by a right hand that knocked him out. With the loss, Nascimento is 11-2 and one No Contest and is 4-2 and one NC in the UFC with both of his losses by knockout.Source: UFC
2 days agoDerrick Lewis scored a third-round knockout win over Rodrigo Nascimento in the main event of UFC St. Louis on Saturday. Lewis entered the fight as the betting favorite and right away, it appeared he had rocked Nascimento. However, Lewis was controlled for 2:37 of the first round and was controlled for over two minutes in the second round. As it looked like the fight was getting away from him, Lewis landed a massive overhand right that dropped Nascimento, and he finished him off via ground and pound 49 seconds into the third round. With the win, Lewis is now 28-12 and 1 No Contest and is 19-10 in the UFC.Source: UFC
2 days agoBoston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman is expected to start Sunday's Game 4 against the Panthers. The 25-year-old has allowed nine goals across the last two games in the series, but a change between the sticks doesn't appear to be imminent. Boston gave up only 10 goals in Swayman's first seven postseason games of the year. He hasn't lost three starts on the bounce since February, going 5-4 in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs and allowing 2.19 goals with a .931 save percentage.Source: Tom Gulitti
2 days agoBoston Bruins left wing Brad Marchand (upper body) won't be in the lineup in Game 4 against Florida on Sunday. The Bruins lost their captain to injury in Game 3 and will be forced to battle without him in at least one game. Marchand, who has posted three goals and seven assists in 10 postseason games, is considered day-to-day. Danton Heinen (undisclosed) returned to practice on Saturday and could be Marchand's replacement in the lineup in Game 4.Source: Elliotte Friedman
2 days agoIndiana Pacers forward Aaron Nesmith (shoulder) will be good to go for Sunday's Game 4 against the Knicks. He hurt his right shoulder in the previous contest, which gave Nesmith a questionable tag ahead of Game 4. But the team has upgraded Nesmith to available ahead of tip-off. The 24-year-old typically provides a little bit of everything, averaging 10.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.9 blocks, and 0.7 steals for the 2024 playoffs.Source: NBA Injury Report
2 days agoIndiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton (back, ankle) will play in Game 4 against the Knicks on Sunday. The talented playmaker has suffered multiple injuries during the team's playoff run but will continue to battle on. Haliburton has a chance to post a third consecutive 30-point game on Sunday. He's averaging 25.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 8.0 assists, and 3.0 steals against the Knicks with 5.0 made triples.Source: NBA Injury Report
2 days agoTampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Pete Fairbanks was activated on Saturday from the 15-day injured list and tossed a scoreless frame in his return. Fairbanks entered the game in the ninth inning with a 7-2 lead and proceeded to retire three consecutive batters with one strikeout. This is an excellent sign for his fantasy value as he looks to have a clear hold on ninth inning duties. Before suffering a nerve issue in his right arm, the 30-year-old had a high 9.00 ERA and 2.29 WHIP through seven innings. However, he has done very well in limiting hard contact with a 15.0% hard-hit rate and a perfect 0.0% barrel rate, which is a good sign for Fairbanks going forward. He remains a top option for saves on a Rays team that hopes to compete this summer.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoKansas City Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino will be receiving the day off on Sunday as the Royals look to clinch a series victory in a four-game set against the Los Angeles Angels. After getting off to a slow start to the season, the 26-year-old has been turning things around the past few weeks with a .350/.370/.600 line since April 30. As a result, Salvador Perez will shift to first base, which opens catching duties for Freddy Fermin, who will bat in the five-hole. Fermin has posted an excellent 11.1% K rate and a modest .241/.302/.328 line with one long ball through 20 games. He could be worth consideration in DFS as he faces southpaw Patrick Sandoval, who enters Sunday with a 4.85 ERA and 1.49 WHIP.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoColorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland (elbow) was seen playing catch for the third straight day on May 11 but manager Bud Black expressed that the team is being very patient with him. Freeland has yet to step on the mound since going on the 15-day injured list on April 19 and remains at least a week away from doing so. The 30-year-old southpaw has not faced any setbacks in the first steps of his recovery but does not seem remotely close to a rehab assignment. Black did state how Freeland may travel with the team on their upcoming road trip to continue doing team workouts. Through four starts this season, Freeland has a 13.21 ERA and 2.55 WHIP. The 30-year-old may not return to a major league game until mid-June, which makes him not worth rostering in any fantasy format.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoColorado Rockies outfielder Kris Bryant (back) was seen taking batting practice multiple times and running the bases this week. This suggests that he is quickly approaching his rehab assignment, which is tentatively scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 14. Manager Bud Black said that the plan is for Bryant to rejoin the major league roster next weekend when they travel to San Francisco for a three-game set opening on Friday. Bryant struggled at the plate at the beginning of the season with a poor .149/.273/.255 line through 13 games. Last season, in 80 games, he also disappointed with a .233/.313/.367 line. The 32-year-old has been battling injuries for the past few seasons and should remain on your waiver wire for the time being.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoColorado Rockies starting pitcher Peter Lambert is being removed from the starting rotation per manager Bud Black. Southpaw Ty Blanch is slated to replace him. Lambert has posted a hefty 7.61 ERA and 1.69 WHIP through 23 ⅔ innings this season with 20 total strikeouts. Lamber has started just three games this season with a 16.39 ERA and 2.46 WHIP. Blanch has typically been in a bullpen role throughout the majority of this season but has started one game. In his one start on April 24, he tossed five innings of four-run ball against the San Diego Padres. Blanch should be left on your waiver wire and should only be deployed in NL-only formats in favorable matchups.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres. Outman had started five of the Dodgers last six games. The 26-year-old was a surprising source of offense last season, but he is batting a dismal .114 with one home run across his last 15 contests. Enrique Hernandez will start in left field and bat seventh in Outman's absence. Hernandez has also struggled at the plate this season and is 1-for-8 in his career against Padres starter Yu Darvish. He is not a recommended DFS play for Sunday's slate.Source: Los Angeles Dodgers
2 days agoSan Francisco Giants outfield prospect Luis Matos is likely being called up to the majors after he was pulled from his game at Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday night. Reports have also noted that Matos is in the Giants clubhouse on Sunday. Michael Conforto (hamstring) strained his right hamstring in Saturday's game against the Cincinnati Reds and may require an IL stint once the results of his MRI come back. Matos is the likely replacement on the roster if Conforto misses time. Matos had some fantasy hype coming into the season but has had an underwhelming start to the year. He is slashing .218/.308/.355 with three homers, 17 RBI and three steals through 31 games in the minors.Source: Shayna Rubin
