3 months agoCorey Conners enjoyed a successful 2023 season and reminded everyone why he's still one of the best golfers in the world. Among a long list of highlights, the 32-year-old Canadian notched his second career victory at the Valero Texas Open and posted back-to-back top-10 finishes at the FedEx St. Jude and BMW Championships during the FedExCup Playoffs. But Conners has gotten off to a middling start to the 2024 season, having lost strokes in the short game in his first five starts with his no finish higher than T28. While he is one of the best ball-strikers in the field, his short game woes won't do him any favors at Riviera, where he's missed three cuts and finished 61st in his four career starts. Fantasy managers should seek golfers with higher upside in the $7,000-range on DraftKings this week.Source: PGA Tour
3 months agoNick Taylor is likely to be a popular golfer this week following his emotional victory at the WM Phoenix Open. The 35-year-old Canadian picked up his fourth PGA Tour victory in dramatic fashion, coming back from a three-stroke deficit with four holes remaining to defeat Charlie Hoffman with an 11-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole. That tournament marked the fourth-straight event in which Taylor has gained strokes ball-striking and in the short game, and that has traditionally been the recipe for success at Riviera Country Club. He's also gained strokes in the short-game on this course in seven-straight starts, with his best finish being a T20 back in 2021. Fantasy managers have been accustomed to seeing back-to-back winners on the Tour in recent years, and there's no reason to doubt Taylor's ability to achieve that same feat at The Genesis this weekend.Source: PGA Tour
3 months agoFollowing a T54 finish at Pebble Beach, Xander Schauffele withdrew from the Phoenix Open field to reportedly rest his wrist. While it's not surprising that Schauffele would prioritize a Signature Event, how he's been putting this season has. Outside of an amazing week at the American Express, Schauffele has been subpar on the greens this season. Every other facet of his game has been elite, so a week off could see him bounce back with another top 10.Source: PGATOUR.com
3 months agoA T66 to start the season was very unlike Rory McIlroy. It had been since May that McIlroy wasn't inside the top 25 and could have won twice on the DP World Tour in January. McIlroy was solid in round one of Pebble Beach, but a two-stroke penalty for an improper drop saw his score changed to 71. McIlroy posted a 69 on Saturday during the shortened event and improved on a rough Friday. McIlroy routinely skips Pebble Beach and regularly plays Riviera so a course he's comfortable at should see the star return to his regular form.Source: PGATOUR.com
3 months agoFor the rest of the PGA Tour's sake, it's good news that Scottie Scheffler has one part of his game that's an issue. Scheffler looked primed to finish off a three-peat at TPC Scottsdale after he gained strokes on the greens during the first three rounds, but struggled during the final few holes on Sunday. Scheffler is a near lock to be toward the top of the leaderboard every week but needs the improved putting to win and pay off the huge price tag it costs to play him.Source: PGATOUR.com
3 months agoEmiliano Grillo has not broken into the win column this year, but he has four top-25 results in five tournaments. That includes four in a row since the 2024 opener in Hawaii. The golfer from Argentina shot a sizzling 63 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Sunday. That vaulted him almost into the top 20. Riviera has been an up-and-down roller coaster for Grillo. Last year was rough, then he finished near the top 20. The year before that was a missed cut, where he kept missing putts. Grillo finished in the top 10 almost 25% of the time in 2023 but again did not see the weekend 10 times. However, this year has been different so far.Source: PGATour.com
3 months agoAfter a few tough tournaments, Harris English looks to keep the momentum going at Riviera Country Club this week. English finished tied for 17th at the WM Phoenix Open. He held on for dear life on Sunday to shoot a 71. It easily could have been a round closer to 75. The American golfer enjoyed a hot putter last year with a final round 65. This nearly pushed him into the Top 10. A torn labrum kept him out of the event two years ago. Alas, English must approach greens better (134th on tour in 2024) if he expects to thrive in Los Angeles.Source: PGATour.com
3 months agoBeau Hossler has not performed well in Los Angeles. He missed the cut last year and blew up the year before with a final round 75. One of the main problems the American golfer had in 2023 was his approaches to the green. He lost 0,263 strokes which ranked 158th on the PGA Tour. This year, he has been inside the Top 60. However, his work off the tee has fallen outside the Top 100. His approaches and accuracy also were below average. Combine that with 57.65% driving accuracy (130th on tour) and Hossler has lots to work on this week at Riviera Country Club. Source: PGATour.com
3 months agoSepp Straka took the event at Scottsdale off last week. After the shortened tournament at Pebble Beach, the Austrian golfer is ready to go for the Genesis Invitational. He has not had the most success at Riviera Country Club. His best result was a tied for 15th a couple of years back. There was a missed cut and a few finishes in the 40's. Straka needs to get off to a solid start and drain a few birdies. Last year, he could not make birdies and struggled around Even par. This must change for Straka to have a chance of seeing the top few pages of the leaderboard. Source: PGATour.com
3 months agoKurt Kitayama played exceptionally well at last week's Waste Management Phoenix Open, finishing tied for eight. Kitayama has now finished in the top 30 in three out of his four 2024 appearances, with his best finish coming last week at TPC Scottsdale. Kitayama will make his second appearance at this week's Genesis Invitational, missing the cut last year in his debut appearance. Kitayama will have an excellent chance to compete this weekend if he continues his strong approach play from 150-200 yards in the fairway. In the past 12 months, he ranks in the 73rd percentile in proximity to the hole on such shots, and this is important to note because, at last year's tournament, over 48% of approach shots came from 150-200 yards. Kitayama has been in great form so far, but his past performance at this event makes him a risky inclusion in DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
3 months agoCameron Davis will return to the golf course this week at the Genesis Invitational after sitting out last week's Waste Management Phoenix Open. He performed exceptionally well in his previous appearance at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am two weeks ago, finishing T20. However, Davis has struggled in his past appearances at the Genesis Invitational, with T48 in 2022, T43 in 2021, and missing the cut last year. He may face challenges this week since he ranks in the 22nd percentile for good shot percentage on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway. Over 48% of approach shots came from 150-200 yards in last year's tournament. Therefore, Davis could be a risky addition to DFS lineups this week, but he may also go overlooked.Source: Data Golf
3 months agoBrian Harman had a T60 finish at last week's Waste Management Phoenix Open, and he has not missed a cut in the five appearances he has made so far in 2024. He performed well at last month's The Sentry and Sony Open in Hawaii, finishing in fifth place and T18, respectively. This week, he is set to compete at the Genesis Invitational, and his past performances suggest that his putting performance is critical to his success. In both of his top finishes in 2024, he gained over 1.30 true-strokes with his putter. On the other hand, whenever he has missed the cut at his past Genesis Invitational appearances, he has lost true-strokes with his putter. In the recent Waste Management Phoenix Open, he gained true-strokes putting and was back in contention on Sunday. However, this week, including Harman in DFS lineups comes with considerable risk.Source: Data Golf
3 months agoHideki Matsuyama finished T22 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open last week and is now gearing up for this week's Genesis Invitational. Although he has had mixed results in the past at this tournament, Matsuyama has shown solid form so far in 2024, not missing a cut yet and finishing T13 at the Farmers Insurance Open. Over the last 12 months, he has shown the form needed to perform well at the Genesis Invitational, ranking in the 86th percentile for proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway. This is important to note since last year's tournament saw over 48% of approach shots from 150-200 yards. However, given his past performances at this tournament, including him in DFS lineups comes with some risk. In addition, in 2020, Matsuyama finished tied for fifth, but he missed the cut in 2021 and 2022 and finished T39 in 2019.Source: Data Golf
3 months agoChris Kirk will be making his debut at the Genesis Invitational this week. He didn't participate in the Waste Management Phoenix Open last week. Kirk has been in great form in his four tournaments in 2024. He has managed to win one tournament and get one top-20 finish, and his worst finish was at T47 in The American Express. It is worth noting that Kirk ranks in the 79th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots in the fairway from 150-200 yards. This is important as over 48% of approach shots at last year's Genesis Invitational came from 150-200 yards. Kirk may be overlooked this week, but he could be a valuable addition to DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
3 months agoByeong Hun An started well at last week's Waste Management Phoenix Open, firing a 68 in the second round but fizzled out in the last two rounds, posting a 75 and 70 in the third and fourth rounds, respectively. An will be making his first appearance at this week's Genesis Invitational since 2017, when he finished T55. Although An has been absent from this tournament for several years, he has the skill set to perform well. In the last 12 months, An ranks in the 81st percentile for greens-in-regulation on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway, and at last year's tournament, over 48% of approach shots were taken from 150-200 yards. An has started well in 2024 and could be a solid addition to DFS lineups this week.Source: Data Golf
