8/20:Last week, Los Angeles Chargers backup quarterback Geno Smith took advantage of the team's first preseason game to establish that he was more polished than competitor Cardale Jones. In Week 2 of the preseason, Smith widened that gap. Smith went 6-for-8 for 85 yards including a beautiful jump-ball touchdown to wide receiver Mike Williams while Jones only threw four passes and took a pair of ugly sacks. Smith is the odds-on favorite to win the backup job, and with the Chargers making the rounds as a popular Super Bowl pick, it could be an extremely valuable job if starting quarterback Philip Rivers were to ever go down.--Billy Stonick - RotoBaller
