Daily Fantasy Golf DraftKings Picks (PGA DFS): RBC Canadian Open

Jordan Spieth (-12) went wire-to-wire to capture his third major becoming the second youngest ever to win the first three legs of the career slam, second to Jack Nicklaus. Spieth won by three strokes over Matt Kuchar after shooting five-under through the last five holes. Spieth joins an illustrious group of players who've won The Open at Royal Birkdale; Peter Thompson, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Johnny Miller, Tom Watson, Ian Baker-Finch, Mark O'Meara and Padraig Harrington.

Anyways, I'll be looking to get back on top the PGA Expert leaderboard providing you with my DraftKings PGA DFS lineup picks for the RBC Canadian Open. My goal as always is to help put together your optimal daily fantasy golf lineups.

Reviewing Last Week's Pick

I'm not going to go through all 15 of my picks last week, but I'll do a quick synopsis. Four of my 15 players chosen were cut. My pick to win, Justin Rose, got off to a fast start but ended up finishing 4-over. The best player I chose, Matt Kuchar, finished runner-up and had a great chance to win.

 

RBC Canadian Open

The Canadian Open is sandwiched between The Open and The WGC- Bridgestone, with the PGA Championship two weeks away. Not many top players will be competing this week, but we still get to see Dustin Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Ian Poulter, Shane Lowry, and Bubba Watson among others.

Glen Abbey Golf Club will host the event on their 7,253 yards par-72 course (35-37) featuring 12 par-4s, four par-5s, and four par-3s.

The course features tight greens, but very easy greens which will yield a ton of birdies. I will be looking at Greens in Regulation, Strokes Gained: Approach, and birdie or better %.

 

Fantasy Golf Lineup Picks for DraftKings (PGA DFS)

High-Cost Players

Dustin Johnson ($12,200)

Greens in Regulation: 8 Strokes Gained Approach: 10  Birdie or better %: 22

I tried my hardest to find a reason not to like him because I hate choosing the highest-priced player, but I can't. He's finished runner-up in his last two times here, 2013 and 2015. Although he finished 4-over at The Open, he did shoot a third round 64. He needs a tournament like this to get his groove back.

Jim Furyk ($9,100)

Greens in Regulation: 56 Strokes Gained Approach: 135  Birdie or better %: 179

After missing six consecutive cuts Furyk has made three in a row including last week at The Barbasol Championship (yes, you read that right. He didn't play in The Open). Furyk has competed at this course the last four times; '16, '15, '13, and '08.  In those years from '08 to last year he's finished; 14th, 9th, 4th, and 13th. A seasoned veteran like this usually has a run at these smallish events.

 

Middle-Cost Players

Danny Lee ($8,000)

Greens in Regulation: T-83 Strokes Gained Approach: 38  Birdie or better %: 37

Lee is having a breakout season. He had a top-5, a top-10 and a top-25 before withdrawing from the John Deere two weeks ago with a sore shoulder and wrist. He was 32nd last year competing at this event for the first time and his accuracy gives him a major advantage.

Scott Stallings ($7,500)

Greens in Regulation: 31 Strokes Gained Approach: 30  Birdie or better %: 125

Despite missing both cuts in the two times competing here, he's been on a roll. He's made four cuts in a row, including a T-5 two weeks ago at the John Deere and T-3 at the Barbasol last week.

Adam Hadwin ($7,400)

Greens in Regulation: 97 Strokes Gained Approach: 34  Birdie or better %: 85

The Canadian has missed two cuts in a row and is two-for-three at this event including a 7th place finish in 2015. He will be low-owned and you gotta have one Canadian in your lineup for the Canadian Championship.

 

Low-Cost Players

Johnny Vegas ($7,000)

Greens in Regulation: 97 Strokes Gained Approach: 58  Birdie or better %: 82

How is the defending champion this cheap? Well probably because he's missed five cuts in a row, but don't worry. He'll be making the cut this week.

Alex Cejka ($6,600)

Greens in Regulation: 80 Strokes Gained Approach: 143  Birdie or better %: 193

Cejka is three-for-three at this event including a 5th place finish last year. He's in pretty good form, but is awfully erratic. He was cut at the Quicken Loans a month ago, T-9 at the Greenbrier a week later, then cut at the John Deere, and had a T-15 last week at the Barbasol. Hopefully his top-20 cut trend doesn't continue, but if he has any showing like he did last week, he'll be a steal.
