C.J. McCollum 2019 Player Outlook
5 years agoNow entering his fifth season as a full-time starter (seventh overall) for the Portland Trail Blazers, fantasy owners know what to expect out of guard C.J. McCollum: buckets. McCollum has averaged better than 20 points per game and shot at least 44 percent from the floor in each of the past four seasons. With such consistency comes the temptation to nitpick – McCollum averaged just 2.8 assists per game prior to the All-Star break last year. As the season went on, he saw his assists per game average increase each month, which bodes well for his prospects moving forward. Additionally, after shooting 36.2 percent from deep before mid-February, he closed the year with a flurry of 42.6 percent marksmanship. The left knee injury that cut his regular season short was a blip on the radar for a player who has displayed remarkable levels of stability as it pertains to his output. It’s difficult to imagine McCollum’s numbers taking an extensive leap in 2019-20, but as one of the league’s most dynamic scorers, he remains as safe of an early round selection as there is.
