Griffin Canning 2024 Player Outlook: Big Riser Following Successful Injury Return
2 months agoLos Angeles Angels right-hander Griffin Canning missed the entire 2022 season due to a back injury but you wouldn't have known it given his 2023 performance. The 27-year-old posted a 4.32 ERA across 24 outings (22 starts) and 127 innings of work a season ago. However, he also posted a 3.82 xFIP, 3.80 SIERA, and a tidy 19.2% K-BB% as it appears he pitched much better than his surface ERA suggests. A recurring issue for Canning has been the long ball as he allowed 1.56 homers per nine innings last season and owns a nearly identical 1.55 HR/9 career mark. ATC projects Canning to take the ball 25 times this season with a 4.16 ERA alongside a 17.9% K-BB% in 147 frames. He's not a superstar, but fantasy managers would be wise to invest in the Angels' Opening Day starter around an undervalued 287.97 ADP.
