Alex Verdugo Riding The Pine On Thursday For Lack Of Hustle
11 months agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo is out of the lineup for Thursday's series finale against the Cleveland Guardians. It was originally perceived to be a routine day off for the 27-year-old, but manager Alex Cora says Verdugo has been benched for this one due to a "lack of hustle" during Wednesday's outing. The on-base machine didn't provide enough effort running out a grounder during a fielder's choice in the seventh inning. Verdugo misses a matchup with right-hander Aaron Civale on Thursday and Jarren Duran replaces him in the leadoff spot. Fantasy managers should get the contact-oriented southpaw back for a three-game set with the division-rival New York Yankees starting Friday, when he will face three right-handed starters over the weekend.
