Ryan Shazier reminds me a lot of Cowboys ILB Sean Lee. When on the field, he is an IDP monster, capable of posting Top 10 linebacker numbers without hesitation. Unfortunately, the biggest similarity between the two are their durability concerns. Shazier has never played more than 13 games in his three NFL seasons, and has only appeared in 34 of a possible 48 games. Adding to this concern is the fact that the former Buckeye is reportedly already a bit nicked up at Steelers camp. The tantalizing part of Shazier's game is what separates him from Lee: his freakish athleticism and speed. Few linebackers in the NFL are as fast and quick as Shazier, which allows him to chip in with more than just tackles, but also valuable sacks, interceptions, passes deflected in coverage, and other "extra" stats. If you are the gambling type and like to assume risk, Shazier is the prototypical IDP player, as he will return LB1/LB2 caliber numbers when on the field. If you prefer to go the conservative route and value durability amongst anything else, go find another name.
