After Week 2 of the college football season, Central Michigan and Western Michigan both look like contenders for the BCS playoffs.

Well, no, not really, but teams like the Chippewas (that’s Central Michigan, we think) have put college football’s elites—sometimes with the help of poor officiating—on notice: The meek shall inherit the earth.

Or at least a couple of places in Rotoballer’s Top 10 for this week.

Below are our CFB rankings after Week 2, from our usual fantasy perspective (won-loss records in parentheses).

 

NCAA College Football (CBB) Rankings

1. Alabama, 2-0

We’re not rewarding 'Bama for its big win over Western Kentucky. We’re punishing Clemson for barely beating Troy at home. Still, fabulous frosh Jalen Hurts continues to impress at QB for the Tide. If we’re still talking about him in December, then Nick Saban has a gem.

2. Clemson, 2-0

The Tigers eked out a win in their home opener over Troy, and nobody distinguished themselves on either side of the ball. All indicators so far suggest we may have been too quick to pronounce Dabo Swinney’s coaching shortcomings a thing of the past.

3. Ohio State, 2-0

The Buckeyes beat another cupcake at home, although Tulsa is arguably a tougher team to beat than the patsies on the schedule in Ann Arbor and Tallahassee. Sophomore tailback Mike Weber had another solid game, scoring his first TD. But he’s not Archie Griffin… yet.

4. Florida State, 2-0

The Seminoles continue to succeed despite less-than-stellar rushing performances for preseason Heisman hopeful Dalvin Cook. Another (redshirt) freshman signal-caller, Deondre Francois, is leading the way.

5. Michigan, 2-0

We’re not sure how much of a test UCF really is, but either way QB Wilton Speight passed, and receivers such as senior Amara Darboh (seven catches, 111 yards) are reaping the rewards.

6. Houston, 2-0

A win over Lamar is a bit of a comedown for the Cougs, but they did it with back-up QB Kyle Postma, with super senior Greg Ward Jr. out due to injury. That’s a sign of a good team.

7. Stanford, 1-0

We won’t punish the Cardinal for an early-season bye week. But the fact they remain in our top 10 after being idle shows just how many questions there are about the country’s supposed top teams.

8. Boise State, 2-0

Okay, the Broncos barely beat a Washington State team, at home, that lost to FCS Eastern Washington in Week 1. But QB Brett Rypien (299 yards) is one of the best in country, and coach Bryan Harsin is the latest tactician to make a name for himself on the blue turf.

9. Washington, 2-0

The Huskies have hardly tested themselves (Rutgers, Idaho) so far, but they’ve won big twice and QB Jake Browning looks to be on his way to having a monster year.

10. Oklahoma, 1-1

A home win over Louisiana-Monroe doesn’t mean to the Sooners are “back,” but the fact that running back Joe Mixon had a good game is a good sign. The jury is still out in Norman…
