Tiered Dynasty Wide Receiver Rankings (Part 1)

What's up RotoBallers. Welcome to part one of our 2016 fantasy football tiered wide receiver rankings for dynasty leagues. You can read the rest of our 2016 dynasty league rankings. Fantasy football covers multiple different types of leagues now. There are Standard Leagues, PPR Leagues, Half-PPR Leagues, Rookie Leagues, and arguably the most popular, Daily Fantasy Football. In this article, I, Justin Bales, will be taking you through my most recent Dynasty League Rankings for wide receivers.

Dynasty Leagues are one of the most difficult types of rankings to project. There are multiple aspects that need to be equally balanced while making the rankings. Each owner needs a mix of players that can produce this season along with players that have the potential to produce for years to come. These rankings take every aspect into consideration, as some younger players may be ranked higher than players that are ready to produce this season.

Editor's Note: RotoBaller has the best Premium NFL Subscription, only $29.99 for the full season. We have all the preseason tools to help win your drafts, and in-season tools to win your seasonal and daily leagues: Draft Kit, Premium Rankings, ADP Sleepers Tool, Matchup Ratings for every player, Daily DFS Cheat Sheets, Lineup Picks, Expert Lineups, Stacks and Avoids.

Tier 1 – Dynasty Wide Receiver Rankings

  1. Odell Beckham Jr.
  2. Antonio Brown
  3. DeAndre Hopkins
  4. Julio Jones

The first tier is made up of four of the best fantasy players in the NFL at any position. Odell Beckham Jr. and Antonio Brown are generally seen as the top two fantasy options, and many people see them as interchangeable. Beckham slightly edged out Brown in the rankings because of his age, though. They are both explosive receivers that can score from anywhere on the field. They are both also red zone threats, which is important in a receiver. While Beckham is slightly ahead of Brown on this list, both make elite options with the first overall pick in your draft.

Hopkins and Jones are in a similar situation to Beckham and Brown, but they are ranked slightly below those two. Hopkins is ranked slightly ahead of Jones because of his age, as well. Regardless, all four of these receivers are the main focal points of their teams, and they will have no problems leading their teams. These will likely be the first four picks in the draft, and you can’t go wrong with any of them.

Tier 2 – Dynasty Wide Receiver Rankings

  1. Allen Robinson
  2. Mike Evans
  3. Dez Bryant
  4. Amari Cooper
  5. A.J. Green
  6. Brandin Cooks
  7. Sammy Watkins
  8. Keenan Allen
  9. Alshon Jeffery
  10. Demaryius Thomas
  11. T.Y. Hilton

This tier is overly large for only the second tier of wide receivers. None of these guys are as elite as the top four options, but they all have the potential to finish this season as WR1s. All of these players are also young enough that they should have no problems being potential top receivers for at least a few years.

This group essentially is dealing with a couple different question marks. Bryant, Green, and Thomas are a bit older than some of the other early options. Other players, including Watkins and Allen, have question marks surrounding their health. Ultimately, there really is no going wrong with any of the receivers in this tier, though.

Tier 3 – Dynasty Wide Receiver Rankings

  1. Randall Cobb
  2. Devante Parker
  3. Jordy Nelson
  4. Jarvis Landry
  5. Donte Moncrief
  6. Josh Doctson
  7. Kelvin Benjamin

This tier is made up of high upside, young wide receivers. There are question marks surrounding these players, though. Cobb and Landry are more possession receivers than top receiving options on their teams. That hurts their fantasy upside, although they certainly are helped in the PPR formats.

Parker, Moncrief, and Doctson all have question marks about whether they can become the go-to option on their team. They are all young and talented receivers, but they are a bit unproven, which is why they fell down the rankings a bit. Doctson is also the first rookie on the list, and he has tremendous upside a couple years down the road for the Redskins.

Nelson and Benjamin are the last two receivers on this list. They have both flashed an ability to become WR1s in fantasy football, but they are also coming off gruesome injuries. If they are able to return to their pre-injury form, they will be steals in dynasty leagues. They come with a bit too much risk to be placed in the top two tiers, though.

Tier 4 – Dynasty Wide Receiver Rankings

  1. Corey Coleman
  2. Sterling Shepard
  3. Jordan Matthews
  4. Doug Baldwin
  5. Dorial Green-Beckham
  6. Laquon Treadwell

Half of the receivers in this list are rookies. Coleman, Shepard, and Treadwell were all high draft picks in the NFL draft this season, and each team has big plans for their rookies in their careers. All three rookies have the ability to become great fantasy players, although they are three completely different types of players. Treadwell is the most likely to become the top receiving option on his team, while Shepard is the most likely to catch 100 passes in a season in his career, and Coleman is the boom or bust deep threat. Regardless, each of the young players are high upside options in dynasty leagues.

The rest of the tier is made up of Matthews, Baldwin, and Green-Beckham. They are all fairly young receivers, which gave them a boost up the rankings. Baldwin is coming off a career year and he will be playing the next few seasons with a great quarterback. Matthews has flashed serious upside, but may take a small hit in his new offense this season. Green-Beckham is different than the rest, as he has enough talent to be an elite receiver in the NFL, but he is a head case to say the least, and he’s the biggest boom or bust player in the entire tier.

Tier 5 – Dynasty Wide Receiver Rankings

  1. Brandon Marshall
  2. Kevin White
  3. Allen Hurns
  4. Jeremy Maclin
  5. Michael Floyd

It’s difficult to put Marshall this low in the rankings after the year he is coming off of, but he may not have too many seasons left. He’s an elite fantasy option if you’re a team looking to win now, but he isn’t an elite player in dynasty leagues. Maclin is also a bit older than the rest of the group. He still has a few good years left in him, but he’s in an offense that doesn’t take chances with the passing game, which is why he’s debuting in Tier 5.

White, Hurns, and Floyd all have a lot in common. They are young players that have great upside, but are the number two receivers on their teams. That obviously knocks them down a bit, as the top receiver will see more targets, but each of these three receivers have great upside. They are young enough to make great options in dynasty leagues, but they’ll need an injury to become an elite fantasy option this season.
