Agenda

  1. Happtastic
  2. Today's Weather and Updates
  3. Tomorrow's Picks

1. Happtastic

Cubs leadoff man Ian Happ is available in 78 percent of Yahoo leagues. Yesterday, he bopped two home runs. It was a necessary display of power. He was on the fast track to the minors after hitting .114/.205/.143 over his 39 most recent plate appearances.

Overall, he's at .235/.325/.515. The leadoff slot is all kinds of wrong for him due to a Gallo-ian whiff rate. Unlike Gallo, he doesn't convert most of his contact into big flies. However, there's a good chance he'll cut down on the whiffs in the future. A return to the minors still seems likely, but you might as well use him while he remains a leadoff hitter.

2. Today's Weather and Updates

Atlanta has storm cells splattered all over the region. There is a chance the game will be interrupted or postponed. It's not as if they won't have another chance to play the Phillies. Atlanta, New York, and Denver may be wet tomorrow.

3. Tomorrow's Picks - Tuesday, June 6th

Pitchers to Use

I've listed six streaming starters for tomorrow, none of whom I actually want to use. Daniel Norris has the best matchup versus a pitiful Angels offense. However, Norris' performance has left a sour taste on my tongue. His command is a full grade worse than last season.

Jaime Garcia will face the Phillies. That's nice. He's also extra inconsistent, ranging between quality starts and epic meltdowns. He hasn't melted for a couple weeks. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing. He rarely produces strikeouts. Except when he does. I hate these sorts of pitchers.

Chase Anderson and Brandon McCarthy are the most predictably talented of the bunch. Anderson has coaxed a few extra strikeouts from his ho-hum stuff. He's hosting the Giants at tiny Miller Park. They aren't very strikeout prone. McCarthy is unlikely to earn a win opposite Max Scherzer and the Nationals juggernaut.

Dinelson Lamet is a mystery man. His command and control are below average, yet he's managed 14.40 K/9 and 2.70 BB/9 through two starts. The early results do no match his minor league track record. A future in the bullpen remains likely, especially if hitters adjust to his hanging changeups.  They have a floaty look to them. Lamet may yet adjust with the hitters, becoming yet another surprise breakout on the Padres staff. In sufficiently deep formats, it's worth stashing him, even if (like me) you don't trust him against the Diamondbacks.

Other Targets: Jesse Hahn

Pitchers to Exploit

As with most days, we have a multitude of exploits. The Pirates have a few guys I want to use at Camden Yards versus Kevin Gausman. Dillon Gee may be rusty in his return from the disabled list. Even if he's on his game, he's still an easy exploit. Matt Cain at Miller Park is a recipe for cold piss water. Whatever that means.

Other Targets: Jesse Chavez, Tim Adleman, Jeff Locke, David Paulino, Mike Clevinger, Antonio Senzatela, Hector Santiago

Homers on the Wire

Mitch Moreland will face homer prone Masahiro Tanaka and homer happy Yankee Stadium. That sounds swell.

Those aforementioned Pirates? Josh Harrison and John Jaso are hitting more fly balls this year. They just need a smaller venue than PNC Park. They'll get it on Tuesday in Baltimore. Josh Bell and Jordy Mercer are viable too.

Certain guys appear in this column every day. Tommy Pham and Paul DeJong and waiver wire standbys. Pham even steals bases. Tommy Joseph should be owned in most formats, as should Aaron Altherr (50 percent owned). Lucas Duda mashes any fastball pitcher. Jed Lowrie is a ninja-stud.

Domingo Santana must be rostered immediately.

Other Targets: Howie Kendrick, Matt Adams, Asdrubal Cabrera, Neil Walker, Domingo Santana, Ian Happ, Jorge Bonifacio, David Peralta, Matt Joyce, Danny Valencia

Steals on the Wire

Taylor Motter apparently changes his approach based on whether he's a starter or a sub. His starter's approach is much better for producing power and hits. He also has the speed to take upwards of 20 bags - if he's so inclined.

Add Adam Frazier to the list of Pirates. He's a high average hitter with a hint of power. He's a terrible base thief, but he keeps trying anyway.

Other Targets: Jose Reyes, Hernan Perez, Orlando Arcia

Skill Positions

Cameron Rupp usually hits well against left-handed pitchers. This year, he's hitting .351/.455/.595 in a tiny sample.
