Zack Greinke 2019 Outlook: A Dependable Star In The Desert
6 years agoEntering his age-35 season, Zack Greinke appears to be poised for yet another All-Star caliber campaign in 2019. Greinke has proven to be a rather dependable fantasy pitcher in recent year; he has posted at least a 23-percent strikeout rate and a sub-5.6 percent walk rate in four of the last five seasons. There doesn’t appear to be any sign that Greinke won’t put up similar numbers in 2019, but one area owners might have some slight concern in is his ERA. In five of his last six seasons, Greinke has posted an ERA that was better than his advanced metrics would suggest he should have earned. His 3.21 ERA last year, however, was significantly better than his advanced metrics suggested, as he likely should have posted an ERA closer to 3.60 or 3.70. This concern may cause owners to drop his value slightly from his current ADP of 65, but Greinke still remains a must-own in all formats. Expect another 200-inning, 200-strikeout season from Greinke in 2019, with an ERA likely around 3.45 or 3.50.
