Will Harris 2020 Outlook: If You Can't Beat 'Em, Join 'Em
5 years agoWill Harris was utterly fantastic for the Astros last season, posting a minuscule ERA of 1.50 with an excellent wOBA allowed of just .235. Unfortunately, Harris was also the losing pitcher in game seven of the 2019 World Series, surrendering the deciding home run to Howie Kendrick in the top of the seventh inning. Despite that, Harris turned right around and signed a deal to pitch for Washington in 2020 and beyond, giving him an outside shot to produce a few saves for fantasy owners this season. Bullpens are volatile and managers are fickle. Harris is currently third in line for saves this season in Washington and both of the pitchers ahead of him (Sean Doolittle and Daniel Hudson) could easily go belly-up. That said, with an ADP of around ~500, there is no reason to reach for Harris in your draft. Instead, think of him as a late-round dart throw that can be dropped early on in the season if the current pecking order in Washington remains static. With a career ERA and WHIP of 2.84 and 1.07, respectively, Harris won't hurt your ratios while you wait and see how the Nats' bullpen shakes out. With such a wide range of potential outcomes possible for relievers, it could prove fruitful to grab Harris in the late rounds of your draft, especially if you play in a deeper format.
