Will Fuller 2019 Outlook - Rolling the Dice for a WR2
6 years agoFor fantasy purposes, Will Fuller might as well have the unofficial first name of “When Healthy.” Because that’s where every conversation about Fuller must begin, as he’s missed 16 games over the past two seasons, most recently the second-half of 2018 with an ACL tear. But when healthy, Fuller can be electric, using his 4.3 speed to sprint through defenses that can’t always spare extra coverage for him, given the presence of All-Pro DeAndre Hopkins.
When healthy, Fuller is capable of going on streaks that can carry a fantasy team. After missing the first three games of 2017 with a broken collarbone, Fuller proceeded to announce himself to the world with seven TD in his first four games back. In 2018, he missed the first game of the season with a hamstring injury but then came back with touchdowns in his first three games back, as well as 100+ yards in the first two.
But Fuller can also disappear. Eight times over the 16 games he’s played in the past two seasons, he’s had five or fewer catches and no touchdowns. Fuller, thy name is boom or bust. But coming off of ACL reconstruction – he is expected to be ready for training camp – Fuller can be had for a massive discount, with an NFBC ADP of 93, good for the 34th receiver taken.
When healthy, Will Fuller has the upside of a top-WR2, with the price-tag of Courtland Sutton. If drafted, don’t bank on a full season from him and have a backup plan. But with the low-risk of his cost, it’s worth rolling the dice for a potential season-changing Yahtzee.
