Wesley Matthews 2018-19 Player Outlook
6 years agoDallas Mavericks shooting guard Wesley Matthews remains as a starter for the team, but he's never been the same since tearing his Achilles in 2015 and his minutes look set to take a hit following the arrival of Luka Doncic and the emergence of other young talent. Matthews averaged 33.8 minutes per game last season and had a bit of a bounce-back year, raising his three-point percentage back to a respectable 38.1 percent, but his overall struggles from the field led to him averaging only 12.7 points per game -- his second-lowest mark over the last eight seasons. He'll start his contract year, so maybe there's still some quality left in him, but Matthews is one of the examples how an Achilles injury can completely change the course of one's career. There's talk around town of playing point guards Doncic and Dennis Smith Jr. together, so Matthews' role as a starter might even not last for long.
