Vonn Bell 2020 Outlook: Could Set New Standards With Cincinnati
5 years agoThe Bengals moved to improve their secondary in the offseason, with a primary focus on shoring up the corners. But they did not stop there, adding former Saint Vonn Bell on a three-year deal. Last year’s starter at strong safety, Shawn Williams, is coming off a disappointing season and is in the final year of his contract. It certainly appears Bell will take over for Williams as a starter while the latter moves into more of a versatile and lesser role. There is much anticipation about the 25 year-old Bell coming in from a winning organization and adding a needed jolt of energy to a revamped secondary. He is a very dependable performer in terms of what his tackle numbers, as he has posted totals of 87, 83, 89 and 89 over the past four seasons. He does have just one career interception and 2.5 sacks over the past two years. But he did have five fumble recoveries last year and there is upside for more IDP production with Cincinnati, as he may be more active on a less formidable unit than the one he left in New Orleans. Williams logged 110-plus tackles in each of the past two seasons. The Bengals secondary will be improved, but should still be busy. Bell is the 19th safety in terms of consensus ranks and the No. 58 IDP player overall. He is a very intriguing pick as a second DB, as he has an apparent respectable tackle floor and could set a new career high in 2020. More turnover generation is possible with the Bengals, too.
