Vidal Brujan 2020 Outlook: Potential Source of Steals, Runs, Average
5 years agoThe Rays enjoyed the impact from a number of rookies in 2019 and more prospects are on the way to help out in 2020. One of them, Vidal Brujan, isn’t going to bring a power stroke to the Majors but he does have blazing speed. And, as we all know, good speed is hard to find in fantasy baseball. He swiped 48 bases while splitting the year between High-A ball and Double-A, and 55 the year before that. No Major League player stolen 48 bases in 2019. Only three hitters stole more than 40 bases and only eight topped 30. So if your league includes steals, you should be pretty excited for Brujan; he could be a cross between Dee Gordon (circa 2014-17) and Trea Turner (without the power). The young second baseman has some value in on-based leagues because, along with being a gifted hitter, he’s shown a willingness to take a walk, although he was more aggressive last year. There is no clear path for Brujan right now but the good news is that the Rays’ roster is versatile so second base could eventually be freed up for the gifted athlete once he passes the Triple-A test.
