Ty Montgomery 2018 Outlook: The PPR Option Of The Packers Backfield Battle
6 years agoThe Ty Montgomery hype train was full speed last year and if it wasn’t for a rib injury that hampered him all season, he may have driven that hype train himself. Through the first three weeks of the 2017 season, Montgomery was the RB4 and held off Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones to keep his spot atop the depth chart.
2018 could be a completely different scenario however. The good news for Montgomery is that Jones will be suspended to start the year, so he will only need to battle with Williams for carries, but what happens when Jones returns? Montgomery may not see as many carries, but it appears he is locked into receiving down work and could possibly split out wide for some plays as well.
Montgomery could be a hyped-up version of James Starks. In 2015, Starks played a similar role of receiving back and finished as the RB21 in PPR leagues. If Montgomery could play a similar role in 2018, he could be a very valuable piece for fantasy owners who take a late round flyer.
