Tucker Barnhart To Open Season As Starter
7 years agoCincinnati Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart will open the 2018 season as the team's starter, taking over for the oft-injured Devin Mesoraco. Barnhart was essentially the team's starting catcher over the past two seasons, anyways, as Mesoraco only appeared in 72 games combined over that span. Barnhart managed to post a decent batting average in 2017, hitting .270 in 121 games, but he doesn't offer much else in the way of fantasy production. In 1,177 career plate appearances, Barnhart has just 18 career homers, 86 runs, 114 RBI, and five stolen bases. He shouldn't be rostered in mixed leagues and is a bottom tier option in NL-only formats who is only on the fantasy radar due to positional scarcity.
