3 years agoStarting pitcher Trevor Bauer was brilliant for stretches of 2016, but at the end of the day, still couldn't put it all together. After a brutal April he spent in the bullpen, he was fantastic in May and June, going 5-2 with a 2.76 ERA and 7.9 K/9 in 75 innings over 11 starts. But his ERA would never drop down below 4.00 over a month the rest of the season, which resulted in him going 5-5 with a 5.36 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 89 innings to close out the season. So while Bauer's cumulative 2016 stats look not bad--a 12-8 record, 4.26 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 8.0 k/9 over 190 innings, which seems to give him deep mixed league value--that simply wasn't the case four months out of the season. This was a good step in the right direction, but not enough to pull him out of the deep league only pool.--Tony
