Trevor Bauer Hopes to Follow Up the Best Season of His Career With Continued Improvement
7 years agoCleveland Indians starting pitcher Trevor Bauer had a solid 2017, the best season of his career so far. Bauer accumulated 3.2 fWAR, trending up from his previous career high, 2.7, set the previous season. For 2017, Bauer ended up with a 17-9 record and a 4.19 ERA. He was a bit better than his ERA shows, as his FIP and xFIP were 3.88 and 3.60, respectively. He also posted an even 10.00 K/9, a nice jump from his previous full-season career high of 8.69. Perhaps even more impressively, he lowered his walk rate to 3.06 BB/9, down from his previous best of 3.32. Bauer didn't quite have a breakout season in 2017, but he showed significant growth and proved that he belongs in a major league rotation. He'll look to continue his improvement in 2018, and has quite a good chance to do just that.
