Trent Taylor 2018 Player Outlook: Crowded Pass-Catching Corps May Cut Into His Opportunities
6 years agoSan Francisco slot receiver Trent Taylor was a pleasant surprise for his team in 2018. A fifth-round draft choice in 2017, Taylor took over as the team's primary slot receiver and finished the season with 43 receptions for 430 yards and two touchdowns. Despite the optimism surrounding the Jimmy Garoppolo-led San Francisco offense in 2018, Taylor may struggle to replicate those numbers this season. There is sure to be plenty of competition for targets this season as veteran Pierre Garcon is back after missing all of the 2017 campaign with a neck injury. Add in free agent running back and pass-catching extraordinaire Jerick McKinnon, second-round draft choice Dante Pettis, and a breakout candidate at tight end in George Kittle, and Taylor could see his opportunity dwindle. He is worth monitoring this season in case he remains a high-volume slot option but he can go undrafted in standard league drafts.
