Trea Turner Is Ready For His Fantasy Closeup
7 years agoThe hype on Turner has understandably reached a fever pitch across the fantasy landscape. With steals at a premium, the idea of a young shortstop who not only hits well and for power, but can steal 50 or more bases is, frankly, a salivating proposition. Add that to the fact that he’s a top-of-the-order hitter in a lineup that includes Bryce Harper, Daniel Murphy and Ryan Zimmerman hitting behind him, and you have a run scoring machine for years to come. It’s no wonder that he’s being taken in the first round of some dynasty and roto drafts. He’s the complete package and he’s young! But fate has a way of pumping our breaks, as evidenced by the errant pitch that broke Turner's wrist. Despite only playing in 98 games, Turner delivered 11 HR, 75 R and 45 RBI while swiping an astonishing 46 bases. His wOBA was .338 and he had a 105 wRC+. Those numbers in a shortened sample give a glimpse of the road ahead for this talented ballplayer. The results, and not just the hype, are very real.
