Trayce Thompson Heading To IL, Jonny DeLuca Coming Up
10 months agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Trayce Thompson (oblique) is set to go on the injured list on Sunday with a strained oblique. The 32-year-old suffered the setback on a check swing in Saturday's tilt with the New York Yankees. Thompson hasn't offered much this year, hitting .155 (11-for-71) with 12 runs scored, 5 homers, and 14 RBI. His absence paves the way for the club's No. 20 prospect Jonny DeLuca to get a call-up to the bigs. The 24-year-old is slashing a strong .292/.378/.574 with 14 big flies, 37 RBI, and 12 stolen bases in the minors this season. DeLuca presents a blend of speed and power which could translate to the major-league level. The Dodgers are short on right-handed options in their outfield with Mookie Betts getting a share of infield action. DeLuca should be able to form some sort of platoon with James Outman, Jason Heyward, and David Peralta. DeLuca may not be an immediate waiver add in redraft leagues, but he's worth watching.
