Travis d’Arnaud Looks To Produce After Mostly Healthy Season
7 years agoNew York Mets catcher Travis d’Arnaud was finally (mostly) healthy for the 2017 season, after four years of trying prior. Unfortunately, that didn’t come with the production hoped for by many. d’Arnaud slashed .244/.293/.443 with 16 home runs, 39 runs scored, and 57 RBI across 376 plate appearances; not bad at all, especially for catcher, but the averages aren’t what he was able to accomplish across 268 plate appearances in 2015 (.268/.340/.485). With fellow young catcher Kevin Plawecki coming on strong towards the end of 2017, there’s a chance we see d’Arnaud supplanted more often, or even replaced if Plawecki is really that much improved. If d’Arnaud can produce as the top catching prospect he was a few years ago though, as we’ve seen glimpses of from time to time, there’s no doubt he would finish as a top-12 backstop. It’s a big if, though, and one to keep in mind on draft day.
