Tom Brady 2021 Outlook: Will Continue to Punch Father Time in the Mouth
3 years agoThey say Father Time is undefeated. Might I present the case of one Tom Brady? Last year's QB9 averaged 21.9 ppg while throwing 40 touchdowns, his highest number since his historic 2007 season with Randy Moss. Brady will be 44 years old this season and it's comical to think that it's been over half a decade since I shied away from Brady in drafts out of fears of him falling off. I've since accepted it's never going to happen. Brady is going to play into his 50s because of course he is. Entering 2021, Brady is one of the last remnants of a bygone era of pocket passers. The modern day quarterback doesn't have to be Lamar Jackson, but he at least needs like a Justin Herbert level of mobility. That fact caps Brady's ceiling at around a mid-QB1, but that's baked into his price. Brady returns his entire offense and his ADP is around QB9, exactly where he finished last season. This isn't a case of him being drafted at his floor or his ceiling, but rather right where he should be. You will be fine if Brady is your starting quarterback this season, but if you're chasing that 2019 Lamar Jackson type ceiling, you will need to look elsewhere.
