Tevin Coleman 2021 Outlook: Bounce Back Candidate With A Fresh Start
3 years agoNew York Jets running back Tevin Coleman joins the team in 2021 after spending the previous two seasons in San Francisco. His 2020 campaign was one to forget; he gained just 53 rushing yards on 28 carries. However, there are some reasons for optimism entering the coming season. Firstly, Coleman dealt with injuries for most of 2020, which contributed to his lack of production even when active. Secondly, the Jets' backfield is far from settled. The team drafted Michael Carter in the fourth round in this year's draft, so how quickly Carter acclimates to the NFL will have a large impact on Coleman's touches. However, with last year's starter Frank Gore still a free agent, a large number of carries are up for grabs. Coleman has a chance at receiving a sizable portion of those carries because of the third reason for optimism: his familiarity with the coaching staff. New head coach Robert Saleh and several key assistants, such as offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur and run game coordinator John Benton, have all come over from San Francisco as well. Coleman's relationship with these coaches could contribute to him getting a larger touch share than expected, especially early on. For all of these reasons, Coleman provides a sneaky value at his current draft position as the RB61. Feel free to target him much earlier at around the RB50 mark.
