Tevin Coleman 2018 Outlook: Best "Backup" RB In The Sport
6 years agoWith the departure of offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, Tevin Coleman's production dipped for the Atlanta Falcons, but he still remains arguably the best backup running back in the NFL. As a complement back to Devonta Freeman, Coleman is an absolute animal coming out of the backfield.
Last season, he totaled 628 rushing yards, 299 receiving yards and scored eight touchdowns in 15 games. As a running back with an ADP around the late-fifth/early-sixth round, those are completely acceptable numbers.
The Falcons use a very balanced offensive attack with Matt Ryan leading the team in addition to Julio Jones and newcomer Calvin Ridley heading the receivers. The offense puts up some serious yardage and point totals, so although there are a lot of mouths to feed, they all get what they need to succeed.
In the NFL, injuries occur often, so if Freeman is to get injured and Coleman is the lead back in a high-scoring offense then his value would shoot through the roof. Whether Freeman is healthy or not, Coleman is still a solid player to have on your team. Be patient and grab him in the sixth round, or later, and reap the benefits of this value.
