Ted Ginn 2019 Outlook: A Speedy Compliment
6 years agoSay it with me now “Ted F’in Ginn”. Thank you, Matthew Berry. This was no more prevalent than in 2018 when Ted Ginn only played in five games for the Saints. 17 receptions for 209 yards and two touchdowns were the results. In 2019 he apparently feels good enough to challenge others in a race for $10,000. Saints fans will hope this is a good sign for a coming season of health for the speedster.
Never a high receptions guy, his true production comes in his deep ball threat. In his first year in New Orleans, he was able to compile 53 receptions for 787 yards and four touchdowns. If he can get back to that level in an offense still led by Drew Brees, he will have value as a WR4 in fantasy. With Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara getting most of the attention, defenses do not key on Ginn like they might on a team with fewer weapons. Still, it is difficult to want to draft him with all the unknowns surrounding his 34-year-old frame after a long career.
Much like DeSean Jackson in Philadelphia, Ginn is going to have good weeks followed by bad weeks this season. He is a solid late round buy in best ball leagues for this reason. In redraft leagues, he is better to be waited on until the season starts. If he shows he is healthy, a waiver add will not cost you much in FAAB. If you do want to draft him in hopes he is going to be healthy, then he should be chosen as a last round pick before the kickers and defenses are drafted.
