3/19:Calling the first few months of Russell Martin’s 2016 season a “slow start” would be a generous description given just how bad it was. As such, fantasy owners and Blue Jays fans alike would feel a tad more comfortable if the veteran catcher swung a hot bat this spring. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case. Martin is only hitting .214 with a .353 OBP and .567 OPS to go along with two runs scored in 14 at bats; he hasn’t driven anyone in or hit any homers. Fortunately, 14 spring training at bats does not a season make, and Martin will likely get it going sooner rather than later. However, at 34 years old with the wear-and-tear Martin has, it’s always fair to wonder if age has caught up with him until he actually demonstrates some production.--Andrew Bua - RotoBaller
