Sixto Sanchez 2020 Outlook: Future Stud Starter Needs Minor Polish
5 years agoThe Miami Marlins received some surprise pitching performances from young hurlers with modest pedigree in 2019. Highly-regarded Sixto Sanchez should soon be ready to join those hurlers in 2020. He stands just six-feet tall but the 21-year-old pitcher can fire his heater up into triple digits. He backs it up with two above-average secondary offers and plus control. With improved command, he should see his strikeout totals rise after posting a solid-but-not-elite rate of 23.6% in Double-A last year. One big plus to his game is that he generates above-average ground-ball rates and has allowed just nine home runs in a pro career spanning five seasons and 335.1 innings. Sanchez will almost certainly open 2020 in Triple-A for the cost-conscious Marlins but he might be ready for The Show by May. Because his strikeout rate is still modest and he’s not likely to win a ton of games pitching for Miami, Sanchez is a better dynasty prospect than he is in 2020 redraft leagues but he has the ingredients (stuff, control, ground-ball tendencies) to get hot and pitch very well as a rookie in the Major Leagues.
