3 years agoThe biggest concern for Rowdy Tellez has hardly ever been his ability to hit for contact. The Toronto Blue Jays prospect recently had enough talent to play designated hitter and first base with increasing success. Tellez was often undervalued because of his glove at first and his inability to truly demonstrate himself as an elite power hitter. The reality of the situation is that Tellez is far and away a slugger behind the plate and much improved at manning first base. He looks to have shed quite a bit of weight over the last two seasons, and it has added in his mobility and ability to make plays with his glove. Expect Tellez to be an above-average first baseman, at worst, and if he can keep his approach going, much more. He won’t be a Gold Glove first baseman, but he surely can be adequate there to allow his bat to benefit the middle of a big league lineup. Tellez is one of those top prospects that will likely turn out to be a much better baseball player than his minor league rankings make him out to be.--Joshua Schwager
