Rishard Matthews 2018 Outlook: Strong Value Play in Later Rounds
6 years agoIn 2016, receiver Rishard Matthews tied for sixth among all receivers with nine touchdowns, led the Titans in targets (108) and receiving yards (945) and also finished at WR21 in fantasy scoring. But after accumulating those career-best numbers, a protracted hamstring injury conspired with the debilitating effects of Tennessee's Exotic Smashmouth approach to create a statistical decline last season (87 targets/53 receptions/795 yards/four touchdowns). Now, his ADP of 134 has tumbled to the bottom of Round 11, where his name resides adjacent to receivers who have yet to reach his level of production (Mike Williams/Cameron Meredith/Geronimo Allison).
However, he should exceed those modest expectations while functioning as an integral component within a Titan offense that should improve significantly. Tennessee’s passing attack only managed 14 touchdowns last season, but Matt LaFleur should incorporate more aggressive playcalling into their offensive philosophy. The 83 targets that were allotted to Eric Decker in 2017 are also available, with Matthews joining Corey Davis as the logical candidates to usurp a sizable portion of those opportunities. Owners should consider targeting him once their drafts approach Round 11, as he delivers significant value at his current ADP.
