2 years agoAtlanta Braves infielder Rio Ruiz was deferred last week in place of Johan Camargo when third baseman Adonis Garcia was placed on the disabled list. The loss of first baseman Freddie Freeman resulted in his timely promotion nonetheless. Ruiz has taken over the starting role at third base with second baseman Jace Peterson shifting to first (that will change with the addition of first baseman Matt Adams). The young corner infielder hit his first career home run on Saturday with a two-run blast off Nationals starter Max Scherzer. Early run support proved to go a long way in a bullpen game. Ruiz struggled in his first two appearances but made major strides against familiar competition. His role will shrink as Peterson moves off first, and he is likely to be sent back to Triple-A Gwinnett upon Garcia's return.--Michael Collins - RotoBaller
