12/16:The Boston Red Sox may need to spend more to land free-agent outfielder J.D. Martinez, as he has said that he prefers playing outfield as opposed to serving as a designated hitter. Currently, Boston has Andrew Benintendi in left field and Mookie Betts in right field. Boston has informed Martinez that he is their first choice this offseason. The Diamondbacks, Giants, Rockies and Dodgers could also be in the mix for Martinez. A trade of outfielder Jackie Bradley could free up a spot for Benintendi to move to center field. After hitting .303 with 45 home runs and 104 RBI with Arizona and the Tigers in 2017, Martinez is the top free-agent bat on the market this year.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
