Rashid Shaheed 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Expect Regression For The Second-Year Wideout
2 years agoComing off an ACL surgery at the end of his Weber State career, Rashid Shaheed was passed over in the NFL Draft, and the New Orleans Saints took a chance on the 24-year-old wide receiver. Shaheed made an immediate impact as he took his first NFL touch ever for a 44-yard touchdown in Week 7 against the Cardinals. His average of 22.3 yards per catch is the most in the league for any player, with at least 15 catches in 2022. But was it all a flash in the pan? Shaheed's emergence in New Orleans is just beginning, as he has had rave reviews for his performance in OTAs so far this offseason. With quarterback Derek Carr at the helm for the Saints, the team will look to improve on their 16th-ranked passing offense, and it seems definitely in the realm of possibilities. The second-year wideout is ranked 147th overall in the latest Rotoballer rankings, which might be high for a player who saw just 10% of the team's target share in 2022. Chris Olave will take on a massive role in 2023, and Michael Thomas' (toe) health will be the biggest topic to watch in the offseason for this offense. Thomas was present for OTAs and is expected to be ready for training camp after being limited to three games due to a toe injury. A wait-and-see approach will be best in most fantasy leagues but is worth a flier in best ball and dynasty leagues.
