2 years agoNew York Mets right-hander Rafael Montero took a one-hitter into the ninth inning against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday. Montero wound up pitching 8 1/3 innings of shutout ball, striking out eight and walking four to improve his record to 3-9 on the year. The 26-year-old right-hander turned in a strong month of August, posting a 2-2 record, 4.15 ERA, and 35 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings of work. He credits his improvement to throwing more strikes, which has come from him learning to trust his pitches. Montero is shaping up as a decent streaming option and has a tasty matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies up next on the schedule.--Matt Terelle - RotoBaller
