Quincy Enunwa 2019 Player Outlook - Finally Healthy and Looking To Thrive
6 years agoQuincy Enunwa spent the last four games of 2018 the same way he spent all of 2017 - injured. Enunwa’s suspect health, along with the Jet’s off-season acquisitions of Le’Veon Bell, Jamison Crowder, and a re-signed Robby Anderson, has cratered his value heading into 2019, with Yahoo and NFBC ADPs sitting respectively at #156 and #232. A healthy Enunwa – a big if – has the same skills as when he was a popular breakout pick following a 2016 campaign in which he caught 58 passes for 857 yards; an athletic, slot-receiver who can run after the catch and is faster than you think, posting a size-adjusted speed score in the 96th percentile.
After a bulging disc cost him all of 2017, Enunwa came back strong last year, being targeted 37 times over his first four games. The Jets then curiously moved him out of the slot, lining him up on the outside instead, where he mostly floundered. Multiple ankle injuries followed, ultimately costing him five games - including the last three of the season.
That didn’t stop the Jets from signing Enunwa to a four-year/$36 million extension in December, and now he is set to flourish in the system of new head coach, Adam Gase – who has not been shy about the expanded role planned for Enunwa, expressing his desire to get the 26-year-old the ball in a variety of ways.
Being the primary-receiving option in a Le’Veon Bell-led offense has proven a lucrative spot in years past, and if healthy, Enunwa has the potential to return WR3 value from the back-end of the draft.
