Quentin Johnston 2023 Outlook: Sneaky Value Playing Alongside Aging Veterans
1 year agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston joined a crowded wide receiver room when he was selected No. 21 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, but he could have more value than fantasy gamers realize. While Johnston will presumably start his rookie campaign behind Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, that duo has missed a combined 11 games last season, and are often on the injury report. With Williams and Allen in and out of the lineup in 2022, Joshua Palmer finished as the WR41 overall and posted three games of at least 99 yards. If Allen or Williams miss time or simply regress as they age in 2023, Johnston could carve out a productive role in Justin Herbert's offense. Banking on injuries is never the "end all be all", but Johnston has a real shot at being Herbert's WR1 or WR2 for at least a few games this season. He's currently going off the board around the WR44 in 2023 fantasy drafts, but likely has more upside than most of the players in that range. If nothing else, Johnston should be viewed as one of the top fantasy wide receiver "handcuffs" in his rookie campaign.
