Pierre Strong Jr. 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Joins Crowded Cleveland Backfield
1 year agoThe New England Patriots traded running back Pierre Strong Jr. to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for offensive tackle Tyrone Wheatley. The 24-year-old will compete with Jerome Ford to be star running back Nick Chubb's backup. New England signed free agent running back Ezekiel Elliott, and Strong was losing ground to Kevin Harris; the change of scenery might benefit him in the long run. Strong only had a modest 17 touches last year with the Patriots but showed flashes at South Dakota St., rushing for 3,411 yards and 31 TDs in three years of college to go along with 56 receptions for 497 yards. He has shown an adept ability in catching passes out of the backfield and could be on the field for passing down situations with Deshaun Watson. Strong is worth monitoring late in drafts and is worth a shot in deep-league formats as a potential handcuff to Chubb.
