9/13:The Chicago Cubs announced that pitcher Pierce Johnson has been designated for assignment.Johnson is a former first round pick of Theo Epstein and company from their first draft class with the Cubs and could draw interest around the league through waivers. Johnson briefly pitched in the big leagues this year and threw one inning while giving up two runs. For Triple-A Iowa this year he had a 4.31 ERA in 43 outings including one start. For his six year minor league career he boasts a 3.24 ERA. Pitching prospect Jen-Ho Tseng will take the spot off Johnson on the 40-man roster and will start on Thursday. Tseng shouldn't have much value the rest of the season but does face a weak Mets offense tomorrow.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller
