Pete Alonso 2024 Player Outlook: Elite Power Option Ready To Keep Raking
11 months agoOnly two players hit more homers than Pete Alonso in 2023, despite him seemingly having a down year. In 154 games, Alonso had 46 homers, 118 RBI, 92 runs and four stolen bases while hitting .217/.318/.504. That was the second-most homers Alonso has hit in a season but also his lowest batting average. There's no questioning his power as since debuting in 2019, Alonso's 192 homers are more than anyone else. And the batting average isn't something you should be concerned about repeating. Alonso had a .205 BABIP, a career-low. His .246 xBA might only be in the 35th percentile but if Alonso hit .240, there'd be no concerns about his batting average. Even if Alonso only hits .230, the counting stats will more than offset any batting average drag. The Mets offense looks like it should be better than last year, when they ranked 20th in runs scored (717), so Alonso should have no problem reaching 100 RBI again. He should also be near triple-digits in runs scored. Entering the final year of his contract, Alonso has been durable, missing just 24 games in his five-year MLB career. Providing you can offset the lack of steals with your other picks, Alonso is an ideal early target.
